Ms. Joanna Yu - Provincial Appointee

Ms. Joanna Yu was appointed by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario to the Police Services Board on June 20, 2007. She was re-appointed to the Police Services Board for a further period of three years, effective June 20, 2008.

Ms. Yu earned her Bachelor of Law Degree in 1989 and served as a lawyer in China before immigrating to Canada in 1993. From 1993 to 1996, as a Crime Reporter for a Chinese Daily Newspaper, Ms. Yu attended monthly Toronto Police Services Board Meetings and reported on police services to the Chinese community.

In 1996, Ms. Yu started her career in real estate and property management. She is a designated Registered Condominium Manager (RCM). During her past management experience in residential, commercial and industrial properties, Ms. Yu successfully assisted the police in seizing marihuana properties and bawdyhouses. Today, Ms. Yu is the Co-Chair of several Crime Prevention Seminars with police.

Ms. Yu is President of Canada Chinese Property Management, a Voting Member of Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario, and a Senior Member of the Canada Chinese Pen Society.

Her series reports focusing on Street Prostitution, Organized Crime and Car Race Tragedies have become very successful in the Chinese community in North America. Ms. Yu is also the author of two Reportage Books, "New Life for Immigrants in Canada", published in Taiwan and "The Interview with Visa Students", published in China.

Since 1994, Ms. Yu has lived with her husband and two sons in York Region. She is fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin and Taishanese.
