2009 AWARD FOR CIVIC LEADERSHIP

At the November 25, 2009 Police Services Board meeting, Chairman Danny Wheeler presented Barbara L. McDonald, Elder and Teacher of the Chippewas of Georgina Island with the Police Services Board’s 2009 Award for Civic Leadership in recognition of her remarkable leadership in the community, her strong partnership with York Regional Police and her commitment and dedication to the Aboriginal teachings and to the Ojibway language. Chief La Barge praised Ms. McDonald as a friend and mentor of York Regional Police and as a dedicated community leader. The Board created its Award for Civic Leadership in 2006 to recognize the highest level of excellence in civic leadership. Recipients of the Award for Civic Leadership are stellar leaders in their fields who enhance community safety and promote positive relations between the citizens and York Regional Police. Previous recipients of the Board’s highest honour include Ms. Illeen Pat Howell, Ms. Margaret Williams, Mr. Leo McArthur, and the late Mr. Kamil Sadiq.
