Advocacy Day at Queen's Park for Policing Reform
Newmarket - In anticipation of the provincial government’s long-awaited changes to the Police Services Act, the Ontario Association of Police Services Boards (OAPSB) and the Chairs of the Big 12 Police Services Boards will be at Queen’s Park on April 26 to advocate for important changes to the decades-old legislation.
Mayor Frank Scarpitti, Chair of the Regional Municipality of York Police Services Board and Chair of the Big 12 Police Services Boards and members of the OAPSB will partake in a special roundtable meeting with Attorney General Yasir Naqvi and Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services Marie-France Lalonde to discuss a revamp of the current system to ensure stronger police oversight, more police accountability and a policing model that reflects efficiency and modern labour policies.
OAPSB representatives and several Chairs of the Big 12 Police Services Boards will be available to respond to media questions in the morning and following the special meeting.
