Province Appoints Chunilall Doobay to the Police Services Board
Newmarket - The York Regional Police Services Board welcomed its newest member, Mr. Chunilall Doobay, at its Board meeting yesterday. Mr. Doobay was appointed by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario for a two-year term commencing on March 7, 2018.
Board member Doobay is originally from Guyana and moved to Canada in 1975. He received a computer science degree from the University of Waterloo and has a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wales (UK). He has worked as a faculty lecturer and computer hardware planner for Canadian General Electric and as a control technician for Ontario Power Generation.
Mr. Doobay is currently retired and donates his time to numerous organizations including Voice of the Vedas Academy of Learning and Montessori School in Richmond Hill and as a teacher at the Bal-Vihaar (Sunday School) and as Director of Voice of the Vedas Cultural Sabha Inc. Mr. Doobay also volunteers his time at the Canadian Museum of Indian Civilization and sits on the York Region Interfaith Advisory Committee.
Mr. Doobay looks forward to serving on the Board and to working on important policing and community safety priorities.
The Regional Municipality of York Police Services Board is a seven-member civilian Board that oversees the York Regional Police and is comprised of one member as Head of Municipal Council, three members are appointed by resolution of Regional Council and three by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.
