2017 Civic Leadership Award Recipients
The Board announced the recipients of its 2017 Award for Civic Leadership. Ms Nancy Coldham, Mr. Ranji Singh and Mr. Mario Cortellucci are recipients of the 2017 Award for Civic Leadership for their commitment to positive social change and community well-being. The Board created this award in 2006 to recognize the highest level of excellence in civic duty. Recipients of this award are stellar leaders in their fields who enhance community safety and have demonstrated excellence in civic leadership.
Proceeds of Crime Report
The Proceeds of Crime legislation in Canada has been designed to combat organized and serious crime by giving the judicial system the ability to seize and forfeit property used to facilitate the activities of organized crime groups and their related criminal activities.
For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2018, York Regional Police turned over a total of $1,529,022 in cash and assets from illicit activities to the Seized Property Management Directorate, the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General, Canada Revenue Agency and the Police Services Board.
The Civil Remedies Act allows for the disbursement of the proceeds of crime to victim compensation, cost recovery and grants to police services. Between April 1, 2017 and March 31, 2018, York Regional Police received $13 million in funding and $185,000 of that total was from the Proceeds of Crime grant. Those funds were used to operate lawful access equipment and to combat human trafficking.
Canadian Association of Police Governance
The Board approved sponsorship of the Canadian Association of Police Governance (CAPG) 2018 Annual Conference. The CAPG is the only national organization dedicated to excellence in police governance. The CAPG exists to serve its members and collaborate with other police services sectors across Canada and all levels of government.
Wounded Warriors Canada
The Board approved sponsorship of the York Regional Police Cycling Team to participate in the Wounded Warriors Highway of Heroes Bike Ride taking place August 25th and 26th, 2018. This event raises funds for mental health awareness for ill and injured Canadian Armed Forces members, veterans and First Responders.
Crime Stoppers of York Region
The Board approved Gold sponsorship in support of Crime Stoppers of York Region’s Annual Wayne Snooks Golf Classic to be held at the Cardinal Golf Club in King, Ontario on June 18th, 2018. Crime Stoppers encourages the citizens of York Region to assist the police in solving crimes.
We Belong! Pride Breakfast
The Board approved sponsorship of the first-ever York Regional Police We Belong! Pride Breakfast in support of PFLAG York Region, York Pride and the AIDS Committee of York Region. These organizations are partners and serve as a resource for York Regional Police to build bridges and to celebrate York Region as a diverse and inclusive community.

The Regional Municipality of York Police Services Board is a seven-member civilian Board that oversees and governs the York Regional Police and is comprised of one member as Head of Municipal Council, three members are appointed by resolution of Regional Council and three by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.
