Board Endorses Inclusion Charter for York Region

The Board is committed to sustaining an inclusive environment for York Regional Police members and the citizens of the Region. The Inclusion Charter for York Region is a partnership initiative that brings together businesses, community organizations and agencies, municipalities, hospitals, school boards and conservation authorities, as well as York Regional Police, with a common commitment to welcoming and inclusive communities. The Board endorsed the Charter and is committed to taking action to incorporate the Charter’s vision within the organization and in the community.

Crime Rate in York Region

The overall crime rate in York Region increased by 3.1 percent during the first half of 2018 when compared with the first half of 2017. The rate of violent crimes increased by 8.8 percent while the rate of property crimes increased by 0.7 percent during that same period.  The rate of sexual violations decreased by 3.1 percent to 323 violations during that same period.  Assault violations saw an increase of 13.6 percent. Impaired driving violations also experienced an increase of 5.7 percent to 633 incidents.  Over the past five years, crime rates in York Region have been gradually increasing.  York Region, however, continues to be a safe community with one of the lowest crime rates in Canada. Board Supports St. John Ambulance

The Board approved support of the St. John Ambulance 11th Annual Black and White Charity Gala taking place on November 3, 2018 in Markham, Ontario. The proceeds of this event support the volunteer-run programs, which are provided to York Region communities every year.

The Regional Municipality of York Police Services Board is a seven-member civilian Board that oversees and governs the York Regional Police and is comprised of one member as Head of Municipal Council, three members are appointed by resolution of Regional Council and three by the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario.
