Board Selects New Deputy Chief of Police

NEWMARKET – The Regional Municipality of York Police Services Board announced today that it has unanimously selected Superintendent Robertson Rouse as Deputy Chief of Police for the York Regional Police effective September 10, 2018.
“Superintendent Rouse brings remarkable strategic and operational experience to the new position and a strong commitment to community. Robertson has demonstrated tremendous success as a leader and is well-positioned to take on this new challenge,” said Chair Virginia Hackson.
With over 30 years of service with York Regional Police, Superintendent Rouse has vast experience as the officer-in-charge of significant operational areas of the organization such as #5 District in Markham, Sexual Assault, Child Abuse, Domestic Violence and many other areas. Over the last several years, Superintendent Rouse has overseen the Staff Services area of the organization which includes Human Resources and Employee Relations. Superintendent Rouse has also occupied roles outside of York Regional Police including a secondment to the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services and the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) and Violent Crime Linkage Analysis Systems (ViClas).
Along with exceptional accomplishments in both the administration and operations of the Service, Robertson’s commitment to community began in the Canadian Armed Forces and has since included being a Co-Chair of the Markham African Caribbean Association – District Liaison Committee, Vice Chair of the Chief’s Equity Advisory Committee and Chair of the YRP Black History Month Committee among many other committees and volunteer positions. He is currently working on his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration.

Deputy Chief Designate Rouse will be sworn in on September 26, 2018.
The Regional Municipality of York Police Services Board is the civilian board which governs and oversees the York Regional Police. Four members of the Board are appointed by Regional Council and three by the Province of Ontario.
