Police Services Board Welcomes New Member

June 17, 2021

The York Regional Police Services Board welcomed its newest member, Mayor Steve Pellegrini of the Township of King. Mayor Pellegrini was appointed by York Regional Council on June 1, 2021 for the remainder of the 2019-2022 term of Regional Council.

“I would like to welcome Mayor Pellegrini to this Board and as his colleague on Regional Council, I am confident he will be a valuable asset to the Board and to the community,” said Board Chair Maurizio Bevilacqua.

Steve Pellegrini is the Mayor of the Township of King and King’s Regional representative on York Regional Council. He was sworn into office in 2010 and is now serving his third consecutive term.

“We welcome Mayor Pellegrini to the Police Services Board and know his knowledge and experience will be a tremendous addition, bringing vision and insight with him,” said Board Vice Chair Wayne Emmerson.

In addition to his continuing service in King, Mayor Pellegrini worked for over 35 years in the municipal sector, recently retiring as a Manager of the Project Management Office.

Mayor Pellegrini strongly believes in giving back and has been involved in many boards in his community. Currently, he is Chair of York Region Transportation Services, Vice Chair for YorkNet, a Board member on the Ontario Heritage Trust, Housing York Inc., Toronto Region Conservation Authority and Holland Marsh Drainage System Joint Municipal Services Board.

Mayor Pellegrini also holds a number of honourary positions such as Honourary Governor of the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, Honourary Chair of King Township Foodbank and Honourary Chair of Arts Society King.

His past service includes Chairman for Communities in Bloom for King Township, Treasurer for Parks and Recreation Ontario, Director of the Association of Ontario Sport and Recreation Administrators and KingFest Music Festival.

In his spare time, Mayor Pellegrini also coached baseball, soccer, and hockey as his children moved through their childhoods.

“It is my honour to be a member of the Police Services Board,” said Mayor Pellegrini. “I truly believe York Regional Police is one of the finest organizations, and as a resident, we are thankful for their service. I look forward to contributing and working with all board members to making the service even better.”
