Latif FazelLatif Fazel

Regional Appointee

Latif Fazel was appointed to the York Regional Police Service Board by York Region Council, effective December 16, 2024 for the remaining term of Council.

As CEO of Liberty Development Corporation, and with more than 35 years of experience in the Real Estate industry, Mr. Fazel has been instrumental in creating some of the most dynamic and sought-out communities in the GTA. With the recognition of his peers, Municipalities and support of purchasers, he has set a vision for corporate commitment and integrity, which has become the standard for Ontario. This has earned Mr. Fazel and Liberty Development Corporation multiples awards, such as:

  • Places to Grow Community of the Year award from BILD
  • OHBA Award of Distinction for the Most Outstanding Building
  • Vaughan Urban Design Awards Award of Merit
  • Markham Design Excellence Award

In addition to Mr. Fazel’s business acumen, he is extremely involved with the local Communities, who have actively developed a 28-acre property in Vaughan that includes a place of worship for the Muslim community, the Jaffari Community Centre (JCC), which is a 167,000 square foot facility that houses a full double-gym, a sizeable congregation area, classrooms, banquet halls and fitness facilities, and now chairing the development of two residential buildings for seniors and community living. The JCC complex successfully carries out youth programs, periodic publications, library, seniors’ activities and various other functions that are part and parcel with building a sustainable and thriving community. This organization is a source of inspiration to other Muslim communities continent-wide.

For the past several years, Mr. Fazel has been a key and instrumental Board Member, holding positions with the Toronto Montessori School, which has over 900 students, and as a member of the Affordable Housing Committee for York Region.

Mr. Fazel has also held various Executive positions and has been a Board of Director for nine years with the Mackenzie Health Foundation and, more recently, being part of the Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital Capital Campaign, assisting to bring the $1.8 billion newly-built hospital to life, making the community both proud and honoured with such a critical development.

Since 2023, Latif holds a Board of Director’s position with the Hill House Hospice, assisting on the Development and Building Committee to construct a new Hospice building in the City of Richmond Hill.

Not only has Mr. Fazel volunteered thousands of hours, but Liberty Development Corporation has made significant donations to Mackenzie Health Foundation, as well as many other critical organizations in the community, including Markham Stouffville Hospital.
